10 Easy Ways to Prevent Hair Loss Naturally

It's better to use natural products to stop hairfall than to go in for expensive parlour treatments, that may not help the problem.

Try the following easy tips at home and see how effective they are in reducing hair loss!



1. Hair Oil Massage

Take any natural oil - olive, coconut, canola - and heat it up so that it is warm, but not too hot. Massage it gently into your scalp. Put on a shower cap and leave it on for an hour, then shampoo your hair.





  1. Massage any of the hair oils mentioned above onto your hair and scalp by applying light pressure with your fingertips.
  2. Do this at least once a week.


2. Indian Gooseberry (Amla)

Amla, yet again an Indian herb is a rich source of vitamin C and iron. This herb is used since ancient times to prevent hair loss. You can also take advantage of this readily available herb.


You’ll need:

  1. Amla pieces
  2. Coconut oil

If your amla pieces are dried, you can use them directly otherwise dry them up in shade.

  1. Boil Coconut oil
  2. Add the dried amla pieces and let it boil for the time until it gets dark in color
  3. Put off the flame and let the oil get cool.
  4. Take out the pieces of amla and use the oil for massaging your hair scalp.

Another way of using this herb is to soak the amla pieces in water overnight. It’s better if you soak it in an iron vessel. Next day when you shampoo after oil massage, use this water to rinse your hair.



3. Fenugreek

Fenugreek, also known as methi, is highly effective in treating hair loss. Fenugreek seeds contain hormone antecedents that enhance hair growth and help rebuild hair follicles. They also contain proteins and nicotinic acid that stimulate hair growth.

  1. Soak one cup of fenugreek seeds in water overnight.
  2. In the morning, grind them to make a paste.
  3. Apply the paste to your hair and cover with a shower cap. After about 40 minutes, rinse your hair.
  4. Follow this remedy every morning for a month.


4. Aloe Vera

Not only Ayurveda but even the ancient Egyptian medicine used aloe vera to prevent hair loss. Aloevera contains enzymes that can eradicate dead cells on our scalp so that they do not clog the hair follicles. Clogging of hair follicles prevent nutrients from entering the hair roots. Aloe vera’s alkalizing properties also help in maintaining hair’s pH level at optimum level promoting hair growth.


How to use aloe vera to prevent hair loss?


Prepare an aloe vera hair mask. You’ll need:

  1. Aloe vera gel extracted from aloe vera plant – Half cup
  2. Castor oil- 2 tsp
  3. Fenugreek powder- 2 tsp
  4. Basil powder- 2 tsp

Mix all the above ingredients to get a thick mask.


  1. Apply this gel mask to your scalp.
  2. Cover yopur hair too with this mask.
  3. Leave the mask on hair for about eight hours. If you can do it at night, its better. Just wear a shower cap before going to bed.
  4. Wash off this mask using a mild shampoo
  5. Do this once a week for a few months to get a good volume of hair.

6. Yucca Plant and Yucca Root Powder

Native American tribes use Yucca plant root for preventing hair loss. Yucca root and even yucca root powder can be obtained from grocery stores. You can make yucca root shampoo at home.


You’ll need:

  1. Yucca root powder- 1 tablespoons
  2. Water- 2 cups

Mix yucca root powder with water and blend it, if possible in a food processor. You will get a foamy smooth liquid through this procedure which can be used to cleanse your hair.


You can use yucca root in a different way too.


  1. Take a piece of yucca root.
  2. Peel off the outer brown layer of your yucca root. This will show up the fleshy white inside of the root.
  3. Now using a hammer or some other tool like it, smash the root to get its pieces.
  4. When you run a piece of such yucca root under water, you’ll get a leathery bar soap like thing with which you can shampoo your hair.



7. Vitamins A & C

These vitamins help in producing sebum, the oily substance that is secreted by our hair follicles to prevent hair from breaking off. Vitamin C also improves iron absorption. However, don’t go overboard. Excess vitamin A can even lead to hair loss. So have this vitamin in moderation.


What to eat for vitamin A?

  1. Sweet potatoes
  2. Carrots
  3. Spinach and Collard greens
  4. Swiss chard
  5. Winter squash
  6. Mustard greens
  7. lettuce

What to eat for vitamin C?

  1. Papaya
  2. Bell peppers
  3. Strawberries
  4. Pineapples
  5. Brussel sprouts
  6. Oranges and Kiwi fruits
  7. Broccoli
  8. Kale

8. Chinese Hibiscus

The Chinese hibiscus flower has many natural properties that can help in treating hair loss. In addition to promoting hair growth, this flower can also be used to cure dandruff, prevent split ends, thicken hair and prevent premature graying. To treat hair loss:


  1. Add 10 Chinese Hibiscus flowers to two cups of coconut oil.
  2. Heat the solution until charred. Strain it to collect the oil.
  3. Apply the oil on your hair before going to bed. Wash your hair in the morning.
  4. Repeat this a few times a week.

You can also make tea with this flower and use it as a rinse for your hair to encourage proper growth.



9. Antioxidants

Apply warm green tea (two bags brewed in one cup of water) on your scalp and leave this mixture on for an hour and then rinse. Green tea contains antioxidants which prevent hair loss and boost hair growth.





10. Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is rich in protein and essential fats that promote hair growth and prevent hair loss. When applied to the hair, coconut milk provides quick results.




  1. You can make fresh coconut milk at home by adding a freshly grated coconut to a pan of water.
  2. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Then strain it.
  3. Once cool, apply the milk thoroughly onto the scalp and into your hair. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then shampoo your hair.

To make the treatment more effective, you can mix black pepper and powdered fenugreek seeds to the coconut milk before using it.


To solve your problem of hair loss, try some of these natural remedies. Also, following a proper diet will keep your hair healthy. So, eat green vegetables and fresh fruits as much as possible.
